Legacy fonts store the short-i sign before the consonant and the reph (र्) after it. Converters that only find-and-replace characters move these signs to the wrong place. We split the text into syllables and reorder each one, then test the result against reference words.

Yes. Every converter works in both directions. When converting to a legacy font we also list any characters that font cannot show, so nothing is lost without you knowing.
